At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Banbury Cherwell, Radio Horton received a donation of £250.00 for the help provided at the Broughton Castle Sportive 2016. Radio Horton is extremely grateful for the club’s generosity.
The Broughton Castle Sportive is the club’s highest profile event, and 2016 marks the fourth event running. The nominated charity this year was the Katharine House Hospice. Over the four years the event has raised over £40,000 and this year had 650 riders.
The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Banbury Cherwell and Banbury STAR, and is supported by local businesses including Norbar Torque Tools and Ellacotts LLP. Participants are offered a choice of four cycling routes throughout the North Oxfordshire countryside, with proceeds being donated to great, local charitable causes. Radio Horton provided music and a PA service in the gardens of Broughton Castle to budding spectators, friends and family members, amongst stalls promoting other charitable organisations.
Events co-ordinator for Radio Horton, Bill Warren attended the black-tie presentation together with the station’s Membership Secretary, James Hulbert and collected a cheque for £250.00 on behalf of the station.
“We are honoured to receive this generous donation for Radio Horton.“, Mr Warren said. “It really is testimony to our volunteers, many of whom attended and helped to provide a lively mix of entertainment throughout the day. Next year, organisers hope to attract some 800 cyclists, and we hope we can be there again to assist at this fantastic event.”
The Sportive coincided with Radio Horton’s 52nd birthday which saw the hospital radio station celebrating its relaunch across the weekend. Photographs from the Sportive event can be viewed in our gallery.
